Forest Department under the Ministry of Environment and Forests, Government of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh is responsible for preservation, conservation and management of Wildlife in the country. The Chief Conservator of Forests is the Chief Wildlife Warden. There is a Circle named Wildlife and Nature Conservation Circle administered by an officer in the rank of Conservator of Forest. There are Four Wildlife Management and Nature Conservation Divisions under this Circle. Each of the Division is administered by a Divisional Forest Officer. In addition, there are two Botanical Gardens in the country .

Legal Provisions

To preserve, conserve and management of wildlife from legal point of view Bangladesh Wildlife (Preservation) Order, 1973 has been promulgated which was subsequently amended in 1974. With enactments of this Act the following Bengal Acts have been repealed (a) The Bengal Rhinoceros Preservation Act, 1932, (b) The Wild Birds and Animals Protection Act, 1912 and (c) The Elephant Preservation Act, 1879 .

There are three schedules under this Order

First Schedule

Part-I : List of Crustaceans, amphibians, reptiles, birds and mammals of Bangladesh which are open to shooting and may be hunted on an ordinary game hunting permit. (From 1998 issuing of hunting permit is closed by the order of government)
Part-II : List of mammals, reptiles and birds of Bangladesh for the hunting of which a special permit is required (Problem animals).

Second Schedule

Wild animals, trophies or meat for the possession, transfer or import of which a certificate or lawful possession is required.

Third Schedule

Protected animals, i.e., animals which shall not be hunted, killed or captured. (included in CITES Appendix-I)

Punishment Under this Order
Provision of punishment has been prescribed under Article-26 of the said Order. As per nature of wildlife crime, minimum punishment to fine Tk.500, with or without 6 months imprisonment and maximum fine to Tk. 2000 with or without 2 years imprisonment.

Bangladesh crab export rules 1998
Government made this rules for carrying effective export of crab as per provision of wildlife order.
