Tanguar Haor
Location and accessibility Tanguar Haor is located over a vast flooded area of Surma river in the Tahirpur and Dhormapasha thana at the north-western corner of Sunamganj district. Accessible by air or train from Dhaka to Sylhet then by road.
Area : 9725 hectare, it includes 50 beels (wetlands).
Established : 1992
Existing facilities :
Tanguar Haor is very important from biodiversity point of view. It harbours 200 species of aquatic plants, 141 species of fishes, 11 amphibians, 34 reptiles, 208 bird species and may species of aquatic lives. During winter, about 98 species of migratory birds, amounting about 50 – 200 thousands, are found in the Tanguar haor. Besides, a number of plant species are sporadically found all over the haor area.

Tanguar haor has been declared as 2nd Ramsar Site in 1992. This is our natural heritage and bestowed with numerous possibilities to develop nature based tourism there.
