It
is considered to be the biggest man-made tank of Bangladesh. It
bears some outstanding historic events of national heritage. The
tank was named after Raja Ram Nath who excavated it on the eve of
the battle of palashi. The National Park is extended over 69.16
acres of land and it was excavated to supply drinking water to the
people living in the surrounding villages.
There was a ghat (stairs) on the middle part of the western bank
and the remains of it still exist. Made of sandstone slabs of
different sizes, the structure measured about 45.8m by 18.3m.
The tank is surrounded by 10.75m high embankments.
Ramsagar is now a famous tourist spot. In addition to Forest Department’s
initiatives Parjatan Corporation has developed some infrastructures
for the beautification of the area. In winter huge number of migratory
birds visit this lake which is a source of recreation of visitors.
